Perfect Homemade Pizza

So while everyone was making delicious looking cakes over the Easter weekend I thought I'd give homemade pizzas a go for the first time & it's safe to say, I will never be buying a ready made pizza again. The recipe is so simple, you can literally use whatever you want for the topping & it's pretty quick too - what more could you want?

So here's what you'll need - (This will make two 12 inch pizzas)

- 550g of white flour

- 7g of dried yeast (one sachet)

- 1 tsp of table salt

- 1 tsp of caster sugar

- 320ml of luke warm water

- Pepper to season

- 2 tbsp of olive oil

For the base sauce

- Tin of chopped tomatoes

- 2 tbsp of tomato Puree

- 1 tbsp olive oil

- Pepper to season

- Salt to season

- 2 cloves of garlic (crushed or finely chopped)

- 1 tsp of basil

- 1 tsp of oregano

- 1 tsp Thyme

For the topping

- Grated cheddar

& the rest is down to you! For ours, we had one massively meaty feast & a veggie topping but its entirely what you fancy on the night.

Here's how its done -

1 - Sieve the white flour into a large mixing bowl, add the salt & pepper. Add the water, yeast, sugar & olive oil into a jug & leave for 3 minutes to allow the yeast to activate.

2 - Slowly pour the wet mixture into the mixing bowl while stirring using a wooden spoon until everything is roughly mixed. Then, using your hands, further mix & knead the dough until it is elastic & slightly tacky but not over sticky. Place the dough in the mixing bowl & cover with a damp tea towel & leave for 1 hour until the dough has doubled in size.

3 - Take the dough & knead it for a few minutes to take some of the air out. Split it into two equal parts. If you are only wishing to make 1 pizza then you can freeze the extra dough.

4 - The sauce is easy - just put all the ingredients into a blender for 30 seconds until you are left with a thick, light red sauce.

5 - Flour a work surface & using a rolling pin, roll the dough until it is roughly the size of the pizza tray you are using. Place the rolled out dough onto the tray & using your fingers, work the dough until it fills the tray.

6 - Brush the surface of the dough with olive oil and then add enough sauce mix to cover the base spreading evenly. Sprinkle on the grated cheese followed by your topping choice. (I normally add more cheese after the toppings to make it extra cheesy.)

7 - Cook the pizza in preheated oven at 200C for 20 minutes and then serve.

I hope you have enjoyed reading & I hope you all try the recipe soon, here are a couple of photos of my finished products. Comment below with your favourite pizza toppings, mine is definitely a meat fest.

Made with Love,
